Substance abuse a problem in Ridgewood
While many Ridgewood teens don't use any recreational drugs or alcohol, and many who do will leave high school unharmed by their experimentation, for some teen and young adult residents, excessive drinking and drug use has become a problem.

Due to a concern in 1987 about adult and teen drug and alcohol abuse, the youth center was established. After three years of fundraising, the youth center opened its doors in 1991. By 2003, the nonprofit had moved to the Aspen Recreation Center.
