When I first started reading about this disease I was outraged that the medical community wouldn’t take these people seriously and was even considering donating money to research but as I kept researching and coming across forums and youtube videos, I started thinking that maybe this is really just a delusion because some of the people that claim to have it really seem nuts. There’s one website which promotes the “Q-tip test” in which you study some Q-tips for a few mins and you’ll start to see some of the cotton fibers move (these are supposed to be parasites). So I decided to do it and lo and behold there really were certain fibers that were moving while the others remained still. My heart started pounding and I got really scared but then I decided to put the same Q-tips in a plastic baggie to see if the same thing would happen and guess what…NO MOVEMENT! So it was obviously just the air and maybe certain fibers are more dense than others which would explain why some moved and others didn’t. Then there was this girl who claimed to have Morgellons on another site and she told of a story where she sprayed her jacket with lice spray and this 3 inch creature came crawling out. She trapped it and her boyfriend killed it the next day…I mean, c’mon! Why would you allow your boyfriend to kill evidence that these things do exist???

Delusional. The need to believe in extra-normal or paranormal things is an odd but consistently recurring facet of human nature. Strangely, it gives folks a feeling of having some control over the knowledge of what goes on around them…folks who are unable to understand science and resent being told they just have to accept what the establishment doctors and scientists say.
So strange claims are made, and people credulously believe what they want to.
PS. Kudos for taking the extra step and trying another experiment, another set of conditions. Never heard of the Q-tips thing, but, reasonably, cotton fibers when removed from their storage box and out in open air would certainly absorb or lose moisture, which would affect their curl – and cause “movement”, along with air currents. Something else which wigs out people who suddenly pay attention to some commonplace object; if you stare at an object long enough (say a penny) it will appear to shimmer or move. This has to do with the complexities of how the eyes and brain produce sight – not the nature of an inert object.
