I read the article twice but it doesn’t explain in the least what it is Epogen doesn’t do or do, so I take it that it’s not efficient against anemia?
Why wouldn’t reporter either explain the man’s main complaint about the drug or treatment?

This is why reporters have editors. The article certainly should devote at least a line or two to an explanation.
A possible explanation is that many financial stories such as this one are generated from press releases, often by people with minimal skills, with the objective to get the news out as fast as possible. Investors like to know ASAP when a company is about to take a hit this large. I also note the South Asian origin of the reporting. Many news services have moved at least the low end of “content generation” to India or Pakistan, where they can hire English speakers for a fraction of the cost in the U.S. or Great Britain. This is exactly that type of work. The expectations of the news service for this kind of commodity news are speed and low cost, not necessarily top-quality journalism. You get what you pay for.
